Pregnancy Care

More and more women are discovering the many benefits associated with chiropractic care and pregnancy. The most common complaint where women seek chiropractic care in pregnancy is for low back pain.

However, as more women utilize chiropractic care, they are noticing additional prenatal and post-partum benefits.

  • Maintain a healthy pregnancy
  • Controlling symptoms of nausea during pregnancy
  • Reduced labour time and delivery (Chiropractic patients frequently report less than 4 hours)
  • Relieving back, neck, or joint pain
  • Prevent a potential cesarean section or other surgeries
  • Increasing the likelihood of full-term delivery
  • Decreased chances of complications during delivery

Why should I have chiropractic during pregnancy?

By establishing pelvic balance and alignment in the spine, this allows the body to adapt to an ever changing environment throughout all three trimesters. Furthermore, when the pelvis is misaligned, it may reduce the amount of room available for the developing baby, which can make it difficult for the baby to get into the best possible position for delivery.

This reduction in space causes supporting ligaments to become twisted known as intrauterine constraint. Correction of intrauterine constraint is accomplished through a Chiropractic technique known as the Webster technique.

Questions and Answers

Is chiropractic safe in pregnancy?

Chiropractic is extremely safe and very sensible for both mother and baby.

Is it difficult to receive a chiropractic adjustment when pregnant?

Not at all. Chiropractors are trained in adjusting the spines of pregnant women and many chiropractic adjusting tables have special modifications and pillows for the pregnant figure.

How late in pregnancy is it possible to get an adjustment?

Patients have received adjustments even during labour, as that is when movement/shifting happens in the mother’s pelvic area.

Can back pain be helped with chiropractic?

Chiropractic is not a treatment or therapy for back or spinal pain. However, with chiropractic spinal adjustments the body will be better able to heal its back and spinal pain, as well as many other health problems. Studies have shown a significant decrease in back and labour pains in mothers receiving chiropractic care.

Can my baby receive chiropractic?

Yes of course! Chiropractic is very safe and gentle. Infants as early as a few hours old have been given spinal checkups and adjustments. We strongly recommend and are passionate about children receiving spinal check-ups. Labour can be very stressful on a new born, having your baby checked as soon as possible will allow them the gift of good spinal and nerve health as they grow.
